Oversteps poets continue to win prizes. The last few weeks have seen several successes: in the National Poetry Competition, both Giles Goodland and Caroline Carver were commended; Elisabeth Rowe has been shortlisted for the Strokestown prize; Alwyn Marriage was Highly Commended in the Mirehouse competition at Words by the Water; and Christopher North has won the Mayor’s Competition in Enfield. Congratulations to all of them.
Four Oversteps poets will be reading at Falmouth Library next Monday evening, 28th March, at 6.30pm. The readers will be Elisabeth Rowe, Angela Stoner, Caroline Carver and Alwyn Marriage; and there will be some open mic slots for other poets.
On Friday 18th March, Oz Hardwick, Anne Stewart and Alwyn Marriage will be giving a poetry reading at the Oxfam Bookshop, 69 Low Petergate, York. Admission is free, but donations to Oxfam will be welcomed.
Alwyn Marriage’s poem, ‘Losing it’, about a friend with Altzheimers, has been published in the February issue of The Interpreter’s House.
There is an Acumen poetry day on Saturday, 12th February. Alwyn Marriage will be running a writing workshop from 10-30 to 12.30; there is an open mike from 1.00 to 2.00; and then Ian Caws and Alwyn Marriage will be reading from 2.30 to 4.0pm. Alwyn Marriage and A C Clarke both had poems included in the anthology of bird poems, ‘No Space but their Own’, published by Grey Hen Press, 2010.
As well as her earlier poetry collections, ‘Beautiful Man’ (Outposts Publications) and ‘Touching Earth’ (Oversteps Books), Alwyn Marriage has written two non-fiction books and edited the highly-acclaimed Collins anthology, ‘New Christian Poetry’. She has been a university philosophy lecturer, editor of a journal and chief executive of two international literacy and literature NGOs, and she took over from Anne Born as Managing Editor of Oversteps Books in 2008.
Alwyn gives regular poetry readings, and accepts commissions for new work or to run workshops.
